Though I already knew that electricity is expensive in Spain this comes as a surprise in two ways. I'd expect Spain to be "better" than Italy and Portugal (at least). I also thought that the prices in Sweden were lower.

My feeling is that part of the problem in Spain is that the production costs really are higher than many other countries. 50% of the energy comes from imported oil. 18% of the energy comes from wind power (and solar), which still has a higher production cost than the consumer price and, hence, is heavily subventioned.

As a comparison, I also searched for the energy supply in Sweden.
